Sydney M. Barnes
THURMAN • Sydney M. Barnes, 64, of Thurman, passed away Saturday, Feb.
4, 2006, at home following several long illnesses.
Syd was born on Feb. 8,1941, in Bayonne, N.J., he was the
son of the late Sydney M. and Emily (Sargent) Barnes.
He graduated from Westwood High School in Westwood, N.J.
and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J.
In 1965, he married Amanda Wingate in Westwood.
In 1972, Syd and his wife built their home in Thurman and
moved to the North Country.
They had two children, Joanna and John.
Before his illness and retirement, Syd was employed by
Adirondack Scenic, Inc., first in Warrensburg, and later in its subsequent
locations.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Syd is survived by
his children, Joanna, who currently lives in New York City, and John, his
wife, Natalie, and one grandson, Joaquin Barnes, who reside in North Adams,
Mass. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Barnes, of Duluth, Ga.,
and several nieces and nephews.
At his request, services will be private and at the convenience
of the family.

Syd became a Member of IATSE Local 524 on April
12th, 1982, and during his work at Adirondack Scenic, he also served there
as the Union's elected Steward for a while. For a period of time,
he worked on shows at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
